Sharing Vision + Empowering Others
If leadership is empowering others, in what ways do you balance the vision you see versus letting those next to you shape what is next?
- Go into a meeting disciplined to ask the team how to get this accomplished (even if you think you already know). They always prove that they will make it better. That doesn’t mean turning it loose and not being involved.
- Give your team the ability to challenge the process, not the vision. Be willing to try some things, but you don’t need to let go because it is still your responsibility. Remember, I am building the church I want to attend. Don’t just tell them no, give them the why. We don’t want obedience, we want agreement. You get the agreement in the why.
- Start meetings with calendars and upcoming events and ask the team what they need from you. Go into these meetings and be a learner, express the idea you have, and then let the discussion happen.
- There will be a few times that you will have to say “We are doing this, but help me make it great”
